GIS Map Library

Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserve maps for public landscape understanding.

These maps combine dated official records with public GIS reference layers. They explain the notified eco-sensitive-zone outer limit, broad geography, terrain, hydrology, elevation and habitat context without exposing sensitive wildlife locations.

Boundary interpretation

Legal status and map geometry are documented separately

The Rajasthan Forest Department's notification dated 5 October 2023 and the updated Tiger Conservation Plan record Bhainsrodgarh Wildlife Sanctuary as part of the MHTR core. The reserve lines on these public maps use OpenStreetMap geometry for orientation; they are not presented as cadastral or legal demarcation.

How to read the 2026 KMZ correctly

The supplied MHTR.kmz is byte-identical to the MHTR download in the Rajasthan Forest Department register under “ESZ KML as on 01.06.2026.” Its polygon records the outer limit around the reserve and eco-sensitive zone. It is not a standalone polygon for the ESZ band and must not replace the reserve or core outline.

248.70 km²

Notified ESZ area

Area stated in Gazette notification S.O. 4268(E), dated 25 November 2020.

0–1.0 km

Notified extent

The ESZ width varies by direction and is zero where the notification records co-termination with the buffer.

≈1,006.03 km²

KML outer envelope

Geodesic calculation of the supplied polygon after its inner ring. This includes the reserve interior and is not the ESZ area.

Official ESZ limit

Eco-sensitive Zone Outer-Limit Context

Maps the official outer-limit geometry supplied by the Rajasthan Forest Department for the 2020 MHTR eco-sensitive zone. The Gazette-notified ESZ covers 248.70 km²; the KML polygon is the larger outer envelope around the reserve and ESZ, not the ESZ band alone.

Use this for: Use this to understand the outer extent of the notified 2020 ESZ and why its KML envelope area must not be reported as the ESZ area.

Reference outlines

Indicative Reserve and Landscape Context

Shows broad MHTR landscape context using public OpenStreetMap reference geometry. The 5 October 2023 notification and updated Tiger Conservation Plan establish Bhainsrodgarh's core status; the displayed linework is not a legal boundary survey.

Use this for: Use this first when explaining where MHTR sits in the wider Kota, Bundi, Chittaurgarh and Jhalawar landscape.

Evidence: 5 Oct 2023 MHTR notification; Updated Tiger Conservation Plan; OpenStreetMap attribution; geoBoundaries

Terrain

Terrain and Ridge Relief

Uses DEM-derived shaded relief with metre-based elevation bands and high/low callouts to make the ridge-to-valley structure visible.

Use this for: Use this to explain why slopes, valleys and long linear ridges shape habitat, visibility, patrol access and movement, with approximate elevation context.

Evidence: AWS terrain tiles; OpenStreetMap attribution; Updated Tiger Conservation Plan

Water

Water Systems and Hydrology

Highlights Chambal-linked rivers, reservoirs, canals and drainage lines around the reserve, with key public water-body names labelled.

Use this for: Use this for dry-season stress, wetland value, riparian corridors and water-linked movement context.

Sources: OpenStreetMap, Mapzen/AWS Terrarium elevation tiles, MHTR TCP

Evidence: OpenStreetMap attribution; AWS terrain tiles; Updated Tiger Conservation Plan

Elevation

Elevation Zones and Contours

Classifies local elevation bands in metres, adds 50 m contours, and marks representative high-ridge and lower-valley points.

Use this for: Use this when discussing high ridges, lower valleys, drainage floors and terrain-driven microhabitats with approximate DEM elevation values.

Evidence: AWS terrain tiles; OpenStreetMap attribution; Updated Tiger Conservation Plan

Land Cover

Land-cover and Habitat Context

Uses ESA WorldCover 2021 v200 to show broad tree cover, shrubland, grassland, cropland, built-up area, bare ground and water. WorldCover ended with the 2021 reference year; this layer is therefore retained as a dated baseline, not described as current land cover.

Use this for: Use this as a 2021 habitat baseline, then interpret later change and fine habitat details with dated satellite products, field notes and forest records.

Evidence: ESA WorldCover data and licence; Annual LCFM successor notice; OpenStreetMap attribution; Updated Tiger Conservation Plan

Source and Safety Notes

Public maps, not sensitive field locations

The map stack uses the official MHTR ESZ outer-limit KML, Gazette and reserve notification records, together with OpenStreetMap, ESA WorldCover 2021, Mapzen/AWS Terrarium elevation tiles and geoBoundaries. Every raster is an interpretation aid; none should be treated as cadastral or legal survey demarcation. The land-cover layer is explicitly a 2021 baseline, not a current land-cover claim.
